Shands HealthCare and the University of Florida Health Science Center constructed a new Cancer Hospital in Gainesville. The new nine-story building includes 192 private rooms, operating rooms, Level-1 trauma center, and provides diagnostic and therapeutic oncology care. Construction on the new hospital started in 2007 and the facility opened in 2009.
Korbel Associates provided equipment planning services through the completion of construction documents including some inventory of equipment and furnishings for the involved departments. The project components include: Blood Bank, Emergency, Endoscopy/Neurology, Central Sterile, Surgery, Perioperative, ICU/PCU, Acute Care Departments including Oncology, Surgical, Trauma, Orthopedics, Heme/Onc, BMT and Spec Surgery, BMT Clinic, Nursing Units, Interventional, Radiation Oncology, Rehabilitation, Respiratory Therapy, Retail Pharmacy, In Patient Pharmacy, Anatomical Laboratory, Imaging, Public Areas, Administration and Support Departments. Shands personnel used Korbel’s planning software throughout the procurement phase to track the equipment through acquisition.
