Highlights

Being the first new hospital in the Twin Cities metro area in a decade, Maple Grove Hospital opened in December 2009 in the northwest suburb of Maple Grove as a joint project of North Memorial and Fairview. Although it is master planned to have eventual expansion to up to 300 inpatient beds, the facility was built with 90 inpatient beds at the outset. There is a full array of departments including diagnostic imaging, labor & delivery, emergency, surgery suite with five operating rooms.

Being a Greenfield facility without any existing user groups, the design process involved only a few key decision makers from North Memorial and Fairview. Korbel’s experience in equipment planning was relied upon heavily as we served as de facto user groups for the facility. We provided budgeting and design support throughout Design Development and the production of Construction Documents. One of our deliverables was a planning matrix of medical imaging equipment to accommodate the worst case scenarios of various manufacturers and models. The owner’s representative firm, Walker & Associates, performed the equipment procurement scope.
