Highlights

As an affiliate of the Mayo Health System, Luther Midelfort built a major addition to its campus in the form of a five-story tower known as the Luther Building. This new building gives a new presence to the campus and features a broad array of services, including a Women’s Health Center with 8 LDRs and 15 Postpartum rooms, a Cancer Treatment Center with both medical and radiation oncology, ambulatory surgery suite with four operating rooms and satellite sterile processing area, and a total of 80 acute care patient rooms.

To help validate the program, Korbel’s service started in autumn of 2006 with equipment budgeting exercises. In 2007, Korbel performed a complete inventory of the equipment and furnishings of all involved departments. Korbel held many rounds of departmental user review meetings, many in conjunction with the architects. The equipment budget started at around $11 million overall, but ended up at closer to $6 million with incorporation of reuse and funding source reclassifications. Korbel provided equipment placement for the architectural construction documents. In 2009, the project transitioned into procurement phase. Though Mayo elected to use its own personnel to gather quotes and write purchase orders from Korbel’s list, we were hired to help organize the process and to track the budget versus actual amounts. The new facility opened to patients late in 2010.
