Highlights

United Medical Center, in conjunction with Children’s National Medical Center of Washington, DC constructed a new Pediatric Emergency Department. Korbel Associates provided a full scope of equipment planning services through completion of construction documents, including equipment list development with equipment placement drawings. Korbel’s procurement phase scope included gathering all the project quotations and monitoring the budget versus actual dollars spent through the release of purchase orders. Project components included twelve observation/exam rooms, an assessment/triage area, a procedure/trauma room, a satellite laboratory, plus clinical and non-clinical ancillary support spaces. The equipment budget was $1.67 million, not including leased and IT equipment. Construction began in 2009, and the new ED department opened its doors in September 2010.
