To increase capacity to accommodate a very large volume of cardiac intensive care unit patients, Children's National Medical Center decided to renovate one of the units vacated by the construction of a new patient tower to create a 33,000 sf Cardiac ICU. The unit features 22 private rooms and two “couplet” rooms of two beds each.
The new Cardiac ICU takes advantage of state-of-the-art technology to maximize clinical flexibility. Each patient room is outfitted with ceiling-mounted booms and equipped for in-room procedures. A cutting edge media room allows staff to monitor patients remotely and can send and receive real-time images to and from anywhere in the world.
