For clinical users who are looking for something more intuitive than the typical specification ID nomenclature, we have introduced alternative tags for both elevation and plan views. Looking at the image here, an end user can identify what the item is without cross-referencing to codes in an equipment list.

As of January 2011, we have done alternative tagging for two projects. Since it proved very helpful to the end users and helped the process of architectural sign-offs, we intend to add these alternative tags to make them standard practice on our Revit families.

The equipment specification IDs will still remain available for architects and engineers preferring to use these codes for coordination with the cut sheets and equipment schedules.
